#JCaliBlog: American Music Awards 2017 Favorite Looks

Last night the 45th Annual American Music Awards (AMAs) took place at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, California and what an exciting night that featured a tribute to Diana Ross, and had performances from some of the hottest performers in music like Pink, Lady Gaga, Khalid, and Kelly Clarkson among many others. With a night filled of music and celebrities, that means red carpet fashion so I couldn't resist doing a recap of my favorite looks.

First, I had to recap and visit some of my favorite looks from the 2016 AMAs. Last year feature a lot of either embellished outfits, or recreating the LBD (little black dress), some of my favorite looks included: Kendall Jenner in Oriett Domenech, Teyana Taylor in Steven Khalil, Niall Horan in Paul Smith, Lady Gaga in Brandon Maxwell, and Hailee Steinfeld in Elie Saab.

Now, for some of my favorites from this years AMAs.

With a special night honoring the legendary Diana Ross with the Lifetime Achievement Award, I have to start with actress on Blackish and daughter of legend Diana Ross, Tracee Ellis Ross because she was giving me all the vibes. Not only did she look effortlessly beautiful in a Stella McCartney metallic dress on the red carpet, but she gave me fashion throwback to Diana Ross in the Pieces of Ice music video for that look. Muted and dark tones are very in especially during this season but adding the metallic touch is the perfect way to make a statement. Plus, talk about her 10 outfit changes during the show - simply stunning!

TV Host, AJ Gibson really showed out this year in an ASOS Noose and Monkey printed suit. There's something about an all black outfit that just makes it a perfect fashion moment. Women have their LBD (Little Black Dress) while men have the ABS (All Black Suit) and it's always fun to see how these looks are recreated. Back to AJ Gibson, I love that he didn't choose to do a typical black suit with a turtleneck and called it day, but instead brought the print galore to the red carpet. With floral details that went from blazer to pants, it was just right! I'm excited to see how AJ Gibson continues to showcase his fashion sense this red carpet season. #HeDidThat

One of my favorite parts of an award show are the performances, and the outfits during those performances. So continuing with the metallic touch, Hailee Steinfeld really did it for me in a Nicolas Jebran silver ensemble. The suit-jacket dress may not have been anything out of this world, but for an event such as the AMAs you don't need over the top but something just right, and I think this really helped her be the main focus of the performance. She really has some good fashion moments as 2016 AMAs red carpet and with all the upcoming projects she has as Pitch Perfect 3, and now back in her music space I'm excited to see more red carpet moments from her. Her performance of "Let Me Go" was in collaboration with Florida Georgia Line, and I must admit I have been missing out on these two gentlemen. Prior to yesterday I was not as familiar with Florida Georgia Line but once I saw them on the red carpet I started following them on Instagram because I really liked their style of very ready-set-go kind of fashion, and after their performance I began to make a FGL playlist because clearly I have some catching up to do.

One of our favorite Glee alums and actress on ABC's Mayor, Lea Michele brought millennial pink to the red carpet wearing J. Mendel Ready To Wear Spring 2018, styled by Brad Goreski. The detail on the top is everything, plus her effortless hair and makeup complimented the whole style, so I was a huge fan of the look. Also, with the trend of pink still being in it was a good way to close the year with a little pale tone, because 2018 is all about the bright bold tones.

Actress and dancer Jenna Dewan Tatum continued the metallic frenzy last night with a custom Julien Macdonald gown, dripped in Swarovski crystals, also styled by Brad Goreski. The ensemble featured a deep plunging line, with metallic details throughout that softened the red carpet up. Especially, seeing all the embellishment pieces sparkle in the flash of the photographers, truly an effortless look for this year's AMAs.

Actress and "Why" singer, Sabrina Carpenter really had me in between with her look this year, but in the end I decided yes, she did that. For starters, she again brought a hip and youthful touch to the carpet, rocked those Casadei knee high boots perfect for this season, and took a Missoni jacket and turned it into a dress. Took all the fashion hacks to make it red carpet ready, and one thing with red carpets is that it doesn't always play to the season we are in but she gave me Fall fashion at its best. Also opting to do lighter tones in plaid, worked perfect with the beige boots.

Another star from Blackish Trevor Jackson, definitely knew how to represent for the men at the red carpet this season, in a Grayscale plaid suit, Versace shirt, and Max Verre boots. He took a very different approach by wearing an unusual lighter tone tuxedo but it worked perfectly, bringing a fresh look to the carpet. Plus, choosing to leave the tie behind and unbuttoning the first few buttons worked for his young, edgy look.
